FAQ's

Are you a real therapist or some sort of bot?

I am an actual therapist!  I received my Psy.D. from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University, and I'm licensed as a clinical psychologist in New York, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Michigan, and the District of Columbia.

How does online therapy work?  Will we type back and forth?

There is no typing involved.  I provide therapy through a video platform that's encrypted to protect your privacy and confidentiality.

Is online therapy effective?

There's a lot of research that demonstrates that participating in therapy online is as effective as in person treatment for a variety of concerns.

Does insurance cover online therapy?

Some insurance companies do.  Check with your specific provider for more details about the types of coverage they provide for online and offline mental health treatment.

What kind of internet service do I need?

As long as you are able to stream services like Netflix, or Hulu, your internet connection is fast enough to participate in online therapy.

Where do I have to be in order to participate in a session?

One of the wonderful things about online therapy is that you are able to participate in your therapy session wherever you feel comfortable.  As long as you have an internet connection, and a computer, smartphone, or tablet, you're all set!  I always encourage people to think about their own privacy and confidentiality when choosing when and where to hold sessions, so keep that in mind when you're making that decision..

I'm an English Speaker who lives outside of the United States, can you see me for therapy?

The laws differ from country to country.  I receive many requests for therapy from outside of the United States, and as long as I'm able to provide services in your specific country legally, I'm happy to see clients who reside abroad.

I don't live in one of the states that you're licensed in, I live in Alabama (or Alaska, or any other one of the 50 States), can you see me for therapy?

Unfortunately the answer to this one is no, I can only provide services within the United States where I hold a valid license to practice.  Check out http://itherapy.com/about_our_counselors to find a therapist who is licensed in your state!
